Xin Chen is a Nottingham-based Chinese visual artist whose work spans ceramics, drawing, and collage with a textile pattern design and illustration background. Xin’s practice is marked by a playful engagement with physical and visual materials. Her work reconfigures shapes and colours inspired by nature, daily experiences, dreams, and imagination, creating what she describes as figurative abstractions.

Xin’s intuitive process results in spontaneous pieces that explore the balance and mystery of the universe, with a style influenced by Outsider Art, Folk Art, and Nabis, marked by a naïve and decorative quality. Her work has been exhibited at Nottingham’s BACKLIT Gallery, Nottingham Contemporary, and various cities across China. Looking ahead, Xin plans to incorporate biomaterials, evolving her practice towards sustainable art-making.
